Situated a ten minute walk from the Roma Street bus station, you will easily find YHA Brisbane City. With a bigger sign than any other hostel on the block, it’s impossible to miss! As my days were jam-packed during my stay in Brisbane, it was important that I found a comfortable home for the night; YHA Brisbane was exactly that.
The Accommodation.
Offering a range of rooms from privates to dorms, YHA Brisbane has something for most budgets. The rooms are sunny, clean, and cozy. All of the rooms have air conditioning, and a recycling bin, and the private rooms have a flat screen TV as well.
The Facilities.
I’m sure you already know by now that I love YHA hostels. One of the reasons I find them so great is because they are always spacious and have TV rooms, game rooms, large kitchens, and many common areas.
Not only does YHA Brisbane have all of the above, but they have a rooftop and pool with an incredible view over Brisbane too. There’s also a café on the main level, serving food and drinks through out the day.
Unlike many other YHAs, however, WiFi in the rooms needs to be purchased. There is a hotspot in the common area, but it is not for long-term use and gets a bit uncomfortable as there are no chairs with backs. The premium WiFi is worth it though, and works excellent within the rooms.
The Accessibility.
Located a fifteen minute walk from Central Brisbane, you can get anywhere from YHA Brisbane. If you’re not up for the walk, however, the Roma Street Bus Station is quite close.
The Eco-Friendliness.
YHA is known for its environmental sustainability. I was quite impressed by the lengths they’ve gone to in reducing their carbon footprint. In trying to prevent climate change by saving energy and water, YHA Brisbane instills:
- A rain water tank, collecting and storing water used to flush the toilets
- Key card operated lights and air conditioning
- Recycling bins located throughout the whole hostel
- Sustainable and eco-friendly building materials
- Long-life, low energy lightbulbs installed with motion sensors
- Water-saving taps, toilets, and showers
- Automatic air conditioning timers to prevent air conditioning being left on in rooms
While Brisbane is a great little city, I also suggest making this YHA Brisbane your home-base to explore the Lone Pine Sanctuary, Moreton Island, and Fraser Island too!
