When preparing for a flight, there’s always the “what ifs” – What if we get stuck in traffic and the plane takes off without me? What if my luggage is lost? What if I get sick while I’m away? But, I’ve never asked myself: “What if I end up in the Emergency room and miss my flight?” Well, not only have I now asked myself that, I’ve experienced it. Early in the morning on March 2nd, I snuggled into bed, excited for my next adventure, when I noticed that my lips felt puffy and my throat felt tight. After consulting with my parents, who were driving me to the airport, we decided better safe than sorry and headed to the Emergency Room four hours before we had to leave for the airport; the idea of having a potentially severe allergic reaction while on an airplane was more than a bit unnerving. We threw my trekkers pack into the car and off we went on snow covered roads, slipping and sliding to the ER because, of course, it was in the middle of a snow storm! To make a long story short, it seems that I had a bad allergic reaction to a new medication and I was advised to wait a few days before traveling. All I can say is, THANK GOODNESS for travel insurance. The ISIC Explorer package saved my wallet quite a bit of cash, and I was able to switch our flight to Wednesday morning. Due to our new departure date, instead of taking off in the midst of a snow storm we just had light rain and few delays. After an easy flight, we made it to our first destination: Managua, Nicaragua.
And This Is Why You Should Have Travel Insurance!
