“Would you like a countdown or a surpr…” we went flying through the air on our tandem extreme swing without having even a second to think about our instructor's question. The views of Lake Taupo are outstanding as you drop and swing through the air.
Taupo Bungy and Extreme Swing, located about an hour south of Rotorua, is not to be missed. With a professional and exceptionally friendly staff, all of your fears will be put aside as you get ready to jump off the ledge.
Before jumping, however, you have to weigh in. In order to be eligible to jump, you have to be in good health and over 45 kilos. Unfortunately, I was supposed to do Taupo's Bungy in addition to the Extreme Swing, but I couldn't hit the 45 kilo mark even in pants and hiking boots. While that was a bummer, I was thrilled David still got to do the bungy jump – his very first! He jumped off like a pro and I loved seeing him jump head-first toward the river below. If you're heavy enough, you may even be able to touch the water! He wasn't (are you sensing a family theme here?), but Taupo Bungy and Extreme Swing is the only company in New Zealand that offers a water touch.
The whole process was quick and painless at Taupo Bungy and Extreme Swing; they have an incredibly efficient system in the works that keeps people from long wait times yet still ensures complete safety. All harnesses were doubled checked by two people, twice, before we were even allowed to jump. It definitely puts you at ease if you're afraid of this adrenaline-inducing experience.
Other than the staff and the vistas, Taupo Bungy and Extreme Swing rocks their photo and video packages. Decked out with multiple cameras throughout the jumping platform, you will have high quality photos and videos taken of your experience from multiple angles! I've done many an adventure activity, and Taupo Bungy and Extreme Swing definitely mastered the multimedia package.
We could have spent hours watching people jump and chatting with the staff – it was that enjoyable. “Why live on the edge, when you could jump off,” couldn't be a more accurate slogan!
A big shoutout to Samantha for being so fabulous! Next time I'm in Taupo I'll be sure to eat a big lunch beforehand 🙂
