From Medellín, take a bus from Terminal Sur to Armenia for 41,000 pesos. Once in Armenia, take a minibus to Salento for 4,000 pesos; it takes about 45 minutes. If you’re headed to Salento, you absolutely must stay at La Serrana – my favorite hostel/campsite in Colombia. I mean, look at the view outside my tent!
La Serrana – Salento
View from Salento is definitely a chill place for you to spend a few days and take in the surroundings. It’s a small town, but offers plenty to do. I could have spent an entire day just staring out my tent opening.
If you’re in Zona Cafetera, the coffee region, there’s a fabulous hike through Valle de Cocora that’s an absolute necessity. It should take about 4-6 hours depending on how many photos you take and if you detour to Acaime to see the hummingbirds.
Valle de Cocora
We thought that it was worth the detour and $5 USD since the hummingbirds are everywhere! Seeing the wax palms, the world’s tallest palm trees, were spectacular and the park as a whole is just absolutely beautiful.
